Sir John Dashwood-King, 3rd Baronet facts for kids
Sir John Dashwood-King was an important English gentleman who lived a long time ago, from 1716 to 1793. He was born John Dashwood, but later added "King" to his name. This happened because of his uncle Dr. John King's will. Sir John was the 3rd Baronet in his family.
His Early Years
John Dashwood-King was the son of Sir Francis Dashwood, 1st Baronet. His mother was Mary King. He had a half-brother named Francis Dashwood, who became the 2nd Baronet.
His Work and Public Service
Sir John was very interested in the lands he owned in Wales and Lincolnshire. He had received these lands from his mother's brothers.
From 1753 to 1761, he worked as a Member of Parliament. This means he was a representative in the British government. He represented a place called Bishop's Castle. This area was known as a "pocket borough." A pocket borough was a place where one person, in this case, his brother-in-law John Walcott, had a lot of control over who got elected.
In 1777, Sir John served as the High Sheriff of Montgomeryshire. This was an important local role, like a chief law enforcement officer for the area. When his half-brother died in 1781, Sir John inherited the title of Baronet. He also inherited West Wycombe Park, a large estate. He did not make many big changes to the estate before he passed away in 1793.
His Family Life
In 1761, Sir John married Sarah Moore. She passed away in 1777. They had eight children together, but only four of them lived longer than their father.
Here are the children who survived him:
- Sir John Dashwood-King, 4th Baronet (1765–1849): He became the 4th Baronet after his father. He married Mary Anne Broadhead in 1789.
