Sir Josiah William Hort, 2nd Baronet (born 6 July 1791 – died 24 August 1876) was an important figure from Hortland, County Kildare, Ireland. He held the special title of Baronet, which was passed down in his family. He also served as the High Sheriff of Kildare and was a Member of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. This means he helped make laws for the country.

His Early Life
Josiah William Hort was born in 1791. He was the oldest son of Sir John Hort, who was the 1st Baronet. This title was like being a knight, but it could be inherited by his children.
When he was young, Josiah went to two very famous schools. He studied at Westminster School and then at Trinity College, Cambridge. He started at Trinity College in 1809.
His Public Service
When his father passed away in 1807, Josiah was still a teenager. He then became the 2nd Baronet.
High Sheriff of Kildare
In 1818, Josiah was chosen to be the High Sheriff of Kildare. A High Sheriff was a very important local official. They were in charge of keeping the peace and making sure laws were followed in their county. It was a bit like being the chief law enforcer for the area.
Serving in Parliament
Later, in 1831, Josiah was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the area of Kildare. As an MP, he worked in the Parliament of the United Kingdom. This is where new laws were discussed and created for the whole country.
He served in Parliament for about one year. In the next election in 1832, he did not win re-election.
His Family
In 1823, Josiah Hort married Louisa Georgiana. She was the daughter of Sir John Caldwell, who was also a Baronet. Josiah and Louisa had three sons and two daughters together. His oldest son, Sir John Josiah Hort, later became the 3rd Baronet.
His Later Years
Sir Josiah William Hort lived a long life. He passed away in 1876 at the age of 85.
