Marmaduke Wyvill was born in 1692. His father was Sir Marmaduke Wyvill, 5th Baronet, who was also a politician. His mother was Henrietta Maria Yarburgh. In 1716, Marmaduke married Carey Coke. Her father was Edward Coke from Holkham, Norfolk.
His Time in Politics
Marmaduke Wyvill tried to become a Member of Parliament (MP) for Richmond several times. He was not successful in the elections of 1713 and 1715. In the 1722 British general election, his father told him not to run.
After his father passed away in 1722, Marmaduke became the 6th Baronet. This meant he inherited his father's title.
Becoming a Member of Parliament
Finally, in the 1727 British general election, Marmaduke Wyvill was elected as an MP for Richmond. He was elected alongside Charles Bathurst. However, there was a problem with this election. The mayor, who was in charge of the voting, allowed many people who were not supposed to vote to cast ballots for Wyvill and Bathurst. Because of this, their opponents complained. On March 14, 1728, the decision was made to give the seats to the other candidates instead. So, Marmaduke Wyvill's time in Parliament was very short.
Later Career
In 1736, Marmaduke's brother-in-law, Thomas Coke, helped him get a new job. He was made the Postmaster General of Ireland. This important job meant he could no longer be a Member of Parliament.
