Sir Pierce Butler, 4th Baronet (born 1670, died 17 April 1732) was an important Irish politician. He held the title of Baronet, which is a special inherited title, and was also a member of the Privy Council of Ireland. He came from a place called Cloughgrenan, which is a small area of land near Carlow.
Pierce Butler was the oldest son of Sir Thomas Butler, who was the 3rd Baronet. His mother was Jane Boyle. He went to college at Trinity College Dublin in 1691 and also studied law at Lincoln's Inn. In 1704, when his father passed away, Pierce became the 4th Baronet.
Sir Pierce's Political Life
Sir Pierce Butler was a Member of Parliament (MP) for County Carlow in the Irish House of Commons. This was like being a representative for the people of Carlow in the government. He held this position from 1703 to 1715. In 1712, he was also made a member of the Privy Council of Ireland. This was a group of important advisors to the King or Queen.
Family and Legacy
In December 1697, Sir Pierce Butler married Anne Galliard. They did not have any sons who could inherit his special title. Because of this, when Sir Pierce died in 1732, the Baronet title passed to his nephew, Richard.
