Sir Richard Beaumont, 1st Baronet (born August 2, 1574 – died October 28, 1631) was an English politician. He served in the House of Commons, which is like a part of today's Parliament, in the year 1625.

Who Was Sir Richard Beaumont?

Sir Richard Beaumont was an important person in England during the 1600s. He was known for his work in politics and for building a grand home. He was the first person in his family to be given the special title of Baronet. This title was given by the King.

Early Life and Knighthood

Richard Beaumont was the son of Edward Beaumont and Elizabeth Ramsden. In 1609, King James I of England made him a knight. This was a big honor back then. A few years later, in 1613, he was put in charge of two hundred "train-band" soldiers. These were like local citizen soldiers who could be called upon to help.

A Role in Government

By 1615, Sir Richard became a justice of the peace for the county of York. A justice of the peace was a local official who helped keep law and order. They also handled some legal matters. In 1625, he was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for a place called Pontefract. This meant he represented the people of Pontefract in the House of Commons.

Building Whitley Beaumont

Sir Richard Beaumont built a very impressive house called Whitley Beaumont. This stately home is located near Huddersfield, in West Yorkshire, England. It was a grand building that showed his importance and wealth.

The Baronetcy Ends

On August 15, 1628, King Charles I gave Sir Richard the title of Baronet. This meant he was the "1st Baronet" of Whitley. However, Sir Richard Beaumont never married. When he passed away on October 28, 1631, he did not have any children. Because of this, the special title of Baronet ended with him.
