Sir Richard Vyvyan of Trelowarren, 3rd Baronet (28 September 1681 – 1724) was an important figure known for supporting the Jacobite cause. Jacobites were people who wanted the old royal family, the Stuarts, to return to the throne of Great Britain.
Richard Vyvyan was born in Colan, Cornwall. In 1697, he married his distant cousin, Mary Vivian. She was from Trewan Hall in St Columb Major. This marriage brought together two parts of the Vyvyan family that had been separate for about 300 years.
Sir Richard Vyvyan became involved in the Jacobite uprising in Cornwall in 1715. This was a rebellion where people tried to put the Stuart family back on the throne. Because of his involvement, he was sent to prison in the famous Tower of London. His wife, Mary, joined him there. While they were in the Tower, their daughter Anne was born. Sir Richard died in 1724. His wife Mary lived for 32 more years after him, passing away in 1756.
