When his father passed away in January 1699, Robert became the 3rd Baronet Austen. His family home was Hall Place in Bexley, in the county of Kent.

A Member of Parliament (MP) is someone chosen to represent people in the government. Sir Robert Austen was elected as an MP for the area of Rye on January 23, 1699. He served in this role for about two years, until November 1701. After this, he decided not to run for election again in Rye. He later tried to become an MP for Kent in 1705, but he was not successful that time.

Family Life

Sir Robert Austen married Elizabeth Stawell. Her father was George Stawell from Cothelstone in Somerset. Sir Robert passed away when he was 42 years old. He was buried in Bexley, the same place as his family home. His son, also named Robert, inherited the Baronet title and became the 4th Baronet.
