Sir Thomas Bellot, 3rd Baronet (1679–1709) was an English politician. He was a member of the Tory Party, which was one of the main political groups in England at the time. Sir Thomas served in the English Parliament and later the British Parliament between 1705 and 1709. He came from Moreton, a place in Cheshire, England.
Early Life and Family
Thomas Bellot was born in 1679 and was baptized on July 18 of that year. He was the oldest surviving son of Sir Thomas Bellot, 2nd Baronet. His mother was Susanna Packe.
Thomas went to school in Chester. Later, he attended Trinity College, Cambridge, starting in February 1699. He became a Baronet (a special title of honor) in November 1699, after his father passed away.
Political Career
Sir Thomas Bellot wanted to become a Member of Parliament (MP). An MP is a person chosen to represent an area in the country's government. He first tried to get elected in a place called Newcastle-under-Lyme in 1703. He didn't win that election.
He tried again in 1704 but was defeated once more. Finally, in the 1705 English general election, he was successfully elected as an MP for Newcastle-under-Lyme. As a Tory, he sometimes voted against the government's preferred choices in Parliament. He lost his seat in 1706 but was elected again for Newcastle-under-Lyme in the 1708 British general election.
Later Life
Sir Thomas Bellot passed away in 1709. He was still quite young and had not married. After his death, his brother, Sir John Bellot, became the 4th Baronet.
