Early Life and Education
Young Thomas went to school at Kilkenny College. After that, he studied at Trinity College Dublin. These were important schools in Ireland at the time. In 1701, he became the High Sheriff of Carlow. This was a key role in local government. A High Sheriff was like a chief law enforcement officer for the county.
A Career in Politics
Thomas Burdett started his political career in 1704. He joined the Irish House of Commons. This was like the parliament for Ireland back then. He represented County Carlow until 1713.
After that, he represented the town of Carlow until 1715. Then, he went back to representing County Carlow. He stayed in this role until he passed away in 1727.
Becoming a Baronet
On 11 July 1723, Thomas Burdett received a special honor. He was made a baronet. This means he was given the title "Sir" and his family would inherit it. His title was "Baronet of Dunmore," which is also in County Carlow. This title had a special rule. If he didn't have a son, it would go to the children of his sister, Anne. Anne was married to Walter Weldon, who was also a politician.
In 1725, Sir Thomas was given another important job. He became the Governor of County Carlow. He held this position for two years.

Sir Thomas Burdett married twice. His first wife was Honora Boyle. She was the daughter of Michael Boyle. Michael Boyle was a very important person. He was the Lord Chancellor of Ireland and also an Archbishop. Sir Thomas and Honora married in 1700. Sadly, she died ten years later.
In 1715, Sir Thomas married again. His second wife was Martha Vigors. Her father was Bartholomew Vigors. He was a Bishop. Sir Thomas Burdett died when he was 58 years old. His only son, William, inherited his title. William was his son with his second wife, Martha.
