Sir Thomas Green's Life
Not much is known about Sir Thomas Green's early life. His family lived in a place called Greens Norton in Northamptonshire. They had been there since the 1300s.
Sir Thomas Green was the son of another Sir Thomas Greene, who passed away in 1462. His mother was Matilda Throckmorton, who died in 1496.
His Family's Home
The Green family lived at Greens Norton for many years. When Sir Thomas Green died in 1506, he did not have any sons. This meant that the direct family line at Greens Norton came to an end.
Legal Challenges and Imprisonment
Around 1505, Sir Thomas Green faced some legal problems. Records show that he was about 43 years old at that time. These records also mentioned that his mother had managed his family's lands for a while after his father died. Later, Sir Thomas Green took over the lands without getting the proper permission from the king.
Because of these issues, he was sent to the Tower of London. He was accused of a serious crime against the king.
Death in the Tower
Sir Thomas Green died in the Tower of London on 9 November 1506. A historical book called Hardying's Chronicle mentions his imprisonment. It says that he was suspected of being involved in a plot. However, the book also suggests that he was later cleared of these suspicions. Even so, he died while still in prison.
His Lands and Heirs
After Sir Thomas Green's death, a special investigation was done in 1507. This investigation looked at all the lands and properties he owned. It found that he owned many manors and large areas of land.
Since he had no sons, his properties were passed down to his two daughters. These daughters were Anne Green and Maud Green.
Sir Thomas Green's Daughters
Sir Thomas Green married a woman named Jane Fogge. They had two daughters:
- Anne Green (born around 1489 – died before 1523). Anne married Nicholas Vaux, 1st Baron Vaux of Harrowden. He was a very important person. Anne and Nicholas had a son named Thomas Vaux, 2nd Baron Vaux of Harrowden.
