Sir Thomas Roberts, 4th Baronet (born December 2, 1658 – died November 20, 1706) was an English politician. He served in the House of Commons, which is like a part of the government, between 1691 and 1702.

Early Life and Family

Thomas Roberts was the son of Sir Howland Roberts, 3rd Baronet and his mother, Bridget Jocelyn. His family lived in a place called Glassenbury, Kent. When he was very young, in 1661, he became the 4th Baronet after his father passed away. A Baronet is a special title, like a knight, that can be passed down in a family.

Education and Beliefs

Thomas Roberts had a private teacher named Rev. Thomas Brand. This teacher was a "dissenter," meaning he had different religious beliefs from the main church at the time. Thomas Roberts was also friendly towards Dissenters. In 1688, he helped with an investigation into fines for people who didn't attend church. He also took on important local roles, becoming a Deputy Lieutenant and a J.P.. These roles helped him with local government and law enforcement. He later studied at St Catharine's College, Cambridge.

Political Career

Sir Thomas Roberts became a Member of Parliament (MP) for Kent in 1691. An MP is someone elected to represent people in the House of Commons. He held this position until 1695. Later, in 1702, he was elected as an MP for Maidstone. However, his election for Maidstone was later cancelled. He tried again to become an MP for Maidstone in 1704 but was not successful.

Family Life

Sir Thomas Roberts married Jane Beale on May 31, 1683. Jane was the daughter of Sir John Beale, who was the 1st Baronet of his family.
