On June 20, 1682, Sir Thomas Taylor married Anne Cotton. Her parents were Sir Robert Cotton, 1st Baronet, of Combermere and Hester Salusbury. When Sir Thomas Taylor passed away, his special title was passed on to his oldest son, who was also named Thomas.

His Time in Politics

Sir Thomas Taylor was a Member of Parliament (MP) in the Irish House of Commons. This was like being a representative in the government.

  • From 1692 to 1699, he represented the area of Kells.
  • Then, from 1703 to 1713, he represented Belturbet.
  • He returned to represent Kells again from 1713 until 1736.

A Special Title

In 1704, Sir Thomas Taylor was given a special title: a baronet. This title was "of Kells" and was part of the Baronetage of Ireland. A baronet is a hereditary title, meaning it can be passed down through the family, similar to a knight but with a higher rank.
