About Sir Walter St John

Sir Walter was the sixth son of Sir John St John, 1st Baronet. He became the Baronet after his nephew, Sir John St John, 2nd Baronet, passed away.

Sir Walter was a Member of Parliament (MP) for many years. An MP is a person chosen to represent an area in the country's government. He represented Wiltshire from 1656 to 1658 and again in 1659. He also represented Wootton Bassett from 1660 to 1679. Later, he was an MP for Wiltshire again from 1679 to 1681 and from 1690 to 1695. People knew him for being very religious and having good morals.

In 1700, Sir Walter helped start a school. He signed a special paper that created a trust for the school. This school later became known as the Sir Walter St John's School in Battersea.

Sir Walter St John passed away on 3 July 1708, when he was 86 years old. He was buried in Battersea on 9 July. After he died, the Baronet title went to his grandson, Henry St John, 1st Viscount Bolingbroke. Henry St John later received another important title, becoming a viscount in 1716.
