Sir William Wentworth (1562-1614) was an important English landowner and a public official during the late 1500s and early 1600s. He held a special title called a baronet.

He was born in 1562. His parents were Thomas Wentworth and Margaret Gascoigne, who inherited a place called Gawthorpe. Sir William also had a sister named Elizabeth Wentworth. She was the mother of Christopher Danby. There's an old story about Sir William visiting a place called Bolling Hall. The story says he had a special vision about St Ann's well in Buxton.

Sir William lived in two main homes. One was Gawthorpe Hall, which is no longer standing, located near Harewood House. His other home was Wentworth Woodhouse, close to Rotherham. He became the High Sheriff of Yorkshire, which was a very important job in the county. On June 20, 1611, he received the title of a baronet.
