Site facts for kids
A site is a specific place or location where something happens or exists. Think of it as a spot on the map where something important is, or will be.
What is a Site?
A site is a real, physical spot. It's where an event takes place, or where something is located. For example, a construction site is where a new building is being built.
Sites for Buildings
In the world of building, "site" is used a lot. It means the exact place where a new building will stand. Builders prepare the site before they start putting up walls.
Gravesites
A gravesite is a special kind of site. It is the place where a person is buried after they pass away. These sites are often found in cemeteries.
Work Locations
The words onsite and offsite are used to talk about where work happens.
- Onsite means the work must be done at the specific location. For example, a builder works onsite at a construction project.
- Offsite means the work can be done somewhere else. Then, it is brought to the main location. For instance, parts of a building might be made in a factory (offsite). Later, they are moved to the building site (onsite) to be put together.
Websites on the Internet
When you hear "site" on the internet, it's usually short for "website". A website is a collection of pages you can visit online. Even though you "go to" a website, it's not a physical place you can touch. It exists on computers connected to the internet. You visit it using a web browser and a web address, called a URL. This use of "site" is like a way of speaking, comparing a digital space to a physical one.
