Alfonso Pons Ezquerra (born November 9, 1959), known as Sito Pons, is a famous Spanish former motorcycle racer. He competed in the top motorcycle racing championships from 1981 to 1991. Sito Pons is best known for winning two world championships in a row. He won the 250cc road racing world championships in 1988 and 1989.
After he stopped racing, Pons started his own racing team called Pons Racing. His team competed in MotoGP and later in Moto2. Many famous riders raced for his team, like Loris Capirossi, Alex Barros, and Max Biaggi. He had to close his MotoGP team in 2006 because of money problems.
Sito Pons also had a team in car racing, specifically in the World Series by Renault. His team won a championship in 2004 with driver Heikki Kovalainen. He returned to motorcycle racing in 2010 with a team in the Moto2 championship. His team, Pons Racing, competed in Moto2 until 2023. They had many talented riders, including Pol Espargaro, who won the championship in 2013.
His team also competed in the MotoE category of MotoGP. They won three championships in MotoE. Jordi Torres won twice in 2020 and 2021, and Mattia Casadei won in 2023.
In 1990, Sito Pons received the Prince of Asturias Award. This is a very important award in Spain for achievements in sports.
