Fastest lap facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

In motorsport, the fastest lap is the quickest lap a driver or rider completes during a race. Think of it as the fastest single trip around the track! Sometimes, winning the fastest lap can even earn a driver extra points, making the race even more exciting.

For example, in series like A1 Grand Prix and the GP2 Series, drivers or teams get bonus points for setting the fastest lap. In Formula One, this used to happen until 1960.

In Grand Prix motorcycle racing, which includes different engine sizes like 125cc or MotoGP, there are no extra points for the fastest lap. But it's still a cool achievement! The legendary rider Giacomo Agostini holds the record for the most fastest laps with an amazing 117. Valentino Rossi, another famous name in MotoGP, is second with 83 fastest laps.
