History of Siurana
Siurana has a long and fascinating past. Its original name was La Seviriana, which came from Latin. Later, when the Umayyads (Muslims) ruled the area, the name changed to Xibrana.
The Reconquest
The village was the very last place in Catalonia to be taken back by the Christians during the Reconquista. This happened in the year 1153. To remember this important event, a special cross was put up in 1953, exactly 800 years later.
