Who Was Queen Sivali?

Queen Sivali was a member of the House of Vijaya, a very old and important royal family in Sri Lanka. When she became queen, she was an unmarried young woman. Even though she was young and single, she was able to take on the big job of leading the kingdom.

Her Short Time as Queen

Sivali's time as queen was very short. She ruled Anuradhapura for only four months. During this time, she was the most powerful person in the kingdom. However, her reign ended when she was overthrown. This means another person took her place by force. The person who overthrew her was Ilanaga, who was a nephew of a previous king, Amandagamini. After Sivali, Ilanaga became the new ruler.
