Skulduggery Pleasant: Resurrection is an exciting fantasy novel written by Derek Landy. It was published in 2017. This book is the first in a new series of Skulduggery Pleasant adventures, making it the tenth book in the whole story! Derek Landy even shared that the original name for this book, and the whole new series, was going to be Valkyrie Cain, named after the main hero of the books.
What Happens in Resurrection?
This story begins five years after the events of the previous book, The Dying of the Light. A new, younger main character named Omen Darkly is introduced. He helps make the series more relatable for readers around 12-15 years old, as Valkyrie Cain is now 24 years old.
The Missing Agent
The story starts with Temper Fray, a secret agent who works for Skulduggery Pleasant. Temper was working undercover, spying on a group called the Anti-sanctuary. This group is made up of sorcerers who want to start a war between regular people (mortals) and magic-users (sorcerers). Temper gets captured by some of the Anti-sanctuary agents. These agents include Lethe, Azzedine Smoke, Memphis, Razzia, Cadaverous Gant, and Destrier.
Valkyrie Returns
When Temper goes missing, Skulduggery Pleasant needs help. He asks Valkyrie Cain to join him again. Valkyrie is staying at Grimwood House, which used to belong to her Uncle Gordon. Meanwhile, in the magical city of Roarhaven, Sebastian Tao has a secret plan. He wants to bring back a very powerful and dangerous being named Darquesse.
Journey to Roarhaven
Valkyrie and Skulduggery travel to Roarhaven, the main city for magic-users. When they try to get into the High Sanctuary, which is a very important magical building, Corporal Yonder tries to stop them. But then, Sergeant Larrup steps in and lets them through. This allows Skulduggery and Valkyrie to continue their important mission.
