Sleepovers is a popular children's book written by the famous English author Jacqueline Wilson. It was first published in 2001. The book features lovely drawings by Nick Sharratt. It tells a story about friendship, fitting in, and dealing with tricky situations.

The Story of Sleepovers

The book follows a girl named Daisy. She is new to her school. Soon, she makes friends with Amy, Bella, Chloe, and Emily. They call themselves "The Alphabet Girls" because their names are in alphabetical order.

All five girls have birthdays coming up one after another. They decide it would be fun to have a sleepover party for each birthday. Most of the girls are kind and friendly. However, Chloe is very spoiled. She likes to boss everyone around. Chloe especially enjoys teasing Daisy. Daisy starts to worry that Chloe might also tease her older sister, Lily, who has a disability.

Amy's Sleepover Party

Amy's sleepover is very girly and fun. The girls dance, sing, and paint their nails. They also enjoy a midnight feast. During the party, Emily feels a bit sick. Daisy helps her feel better. Daisy secretly wishes that Emily could be her best friend, even though Emily is Chloe's friend.

Bella's Sleepover Party

For Bella's birthday, she takes all the girls swimming. Everyone has a great time in the pool. After swimming, they have a huge tea party at Bella's house. Bella has a blue birthday cake shaped like a swimming pool! Bella's parents are very kind. They let all the girls sleep together in their big double bed.

Emily's Sleepover Party

At Emily's sleepover, the girls first play football. Then they all go to the park for a picnic. On the way, Chloe pushes Daisy out of the car. Daisy scrapes her knees. Chloe lies and says it was an accident. Emily is very kind to Daisy. She lets Daisy share her bed, and their friendship grows stronger.

Chloe's Sleepover Party

Chloe tries to stop Daisy from coming to her party. She claims her "Mum" will only let her invite three friends. But Emily, Amy, and Bella refuse to come unless Daisy is invited too. This causes an argument between them. In the end, Chloe gives in and lets Daisy come.

At Chloe's party, they make pizzas. Chloe plays a mean trick on Daisy. She covers Daisy's pizza with anchovies, which Daisy hates. Later, they watch very scary horror movies. Daisy is so scared that she stays awake all night long.

Daisy's Sleepover Party

Daisy is worried about having her own sleepover party. She is afraid the other girls might feel uncomfortable about her sister, Lily. Daisy tells her Dad about Chloe's mean behavior. He suggests not inviting Chloe. But Daisy's Mum says it's only fair since Daisy went to Chloe's party.

When Amy, Bella, and Emily meet Lily, they are very understanding and kind. Chloe, however, is gloomy and rude. Daisy's Dad helps the girls play party games together. The girls all sleep in a big tent in the garden and have a lot of fun.

In the middle of the night, Chloe wakes Daisy. She asks Daisy to take her to the toilet. When they go upstairs, Lily is awake. She makes a loud noise when she hears them. This scares Chloe so much that she wets herself. Chloe decides to go home that night.

After the Sleepovers

When the girls see Chloe back at school, she starts spreading rumors. She tells everyone that Lily is a "maniac baby." Emily, Amy, and Bella stand up for Daisy and Lily. They tell Chloe that she is the real baby. Chloe gets angry and breaks up with them. She goes off to hang out with a different group of girls. From then on, Daisy, Amy, Bella, and Emily become a foursome. Emily becomes Daisy's very best friend.
