Sloop Point, North Carolina facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Sloop Point is a small place in Pender County, North Carolina, United States. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town does. Instead, it's managed by the county government.

Sloop Point is also part of the larger Wilmington area. This area is called the Wilmington Metropolitan Statistical Area. It means Sloop Point is connected to the bigger city of Wilmington for things like jobs and services.

A Short-Lived Village

Sloop Point had a very interesting, but short, history as an official village. On July 1, 1996, it became an "incorporated village." This means it officially formed its own local government. It could then make its own rules and provide services to its residents.

However, this didn't last long. Just over two years later, on July 22, 1998, Sloop Point was "disincorporated." This means it stopped being an official village and went back to being an unincorporated community. This short time as a village makes Sloop Point one of the places with the shortest history as an official town in North Carolina.
