The Smallest House in Great Britain is a super tiny house in Conwy, Wales. It's also known as the Quay House because it sits right on the quay (a dock or pier). People say it's the smallest house in the whole United Kingdom! Today, it's a popular place for tourists to visit.

The Story of the Smallest House

This little house was built way back in the 1500s. People lived in it for a very long time, until the year 1900.

Why Did People Stop Living There?

The last person to live in the house was a fisherman named Robert Jones. He was quite tall, about 6 feet 3 inches (1.9 meters)! Imagine trying to live in a house where you can't even stand up straight. The rooms were just too small for him.

Eventually, the local council (like a city government) decided the house wasn't good enough for people to live in anymore. So, Robert Jones had to move out.

How the House Became Famous

After Robert moved out, the house was owned by his landlord's family. The landlord was also named Robert Jones! His sons weren't interested in the house, so it passed down through the female relatives.

A newspaper editor from the North Wales Weekly News thought the house was special. He convinced the owner, Roger Dawson, to travel around the United Kingdom. Their goal was to prove it was truly the smallest house. They succeeded! Later, the Guinness Book of Records officially confirmed it.

What Does the Smallest House Look Like?

The Smallest House in Great Britain is painted bright red. It's very close to the old walls of Conwy Castle.

Inside the Tiny Rooms

The house has two floors. The ground floor is the living area. It's just big enough for a small space to keep coal and a fireplace. There's even a water tap hidden behind the stairs!

Upstairs is the bedroom. It's a very small, cramped space. There's a little nook for storing things. The total size of the house is only about 3.05 meters by 1.8 meters (10 feet by 6 feet).

Visiting the Smallest House

You can visit the Smallest House in Great Britain every day from spring until autumn.

What to Expect When You Visit

When you go inside, you'll find information about the house's history. A friendly Welsh lady, often wearing traditional clothing, stands outside. She loves to tell visitors all about the house!

You can't go upstairs to the bedroom because it's too old and fragile. But you can peek up from the step ladder to see how tiny it is. It costs £1.50 for adults and £1.00 for children to enter.
