Smint is a popular brand of mints that don't have sugar. They come in cool packages that give you one mint at a time. And they have a unique shape, like a curved triangle. The name 'Smint' comes from combining 'sugar-free' and 'mint'. Many people think it means 'small mint', but that's not right!

The Story of Smint

Smint was first thought up by the company Chupa Chups in 1990. They wanted to make a sugar-free product for grown-ups. After four years of work, Smint was launched as a new brand. It came to the UK in 1995.

In 1996, Smint started a famous advertising campaign called "No Smint, no kiss." Their goal was to make people think of Smint when they wanted fresh breath for kissing.

By 2001, Smint was the best-selling mint in its group in most places it was sold. In the same year, Smint teamed up with Breast Cancer Care. They gave 5p from every pack of strawberry Smint to help the charity.

In 2006, Smint and Chupa Chups became part of a bigger company called Perfetti Van Melle. Then, in 2009, Smint launched extra-large tins in the UK. These "Smint-XXL" tins hold three times more mints than the regular ones.

How Smint Helps Your Teeth

In 2003, Smint began to tell people that a special ingredient in their mints, called xylitol, is good for your health. Xylitol might help reduce plaque, which is a sticky film on your teeth. This can help stop cavities from forming.

Some studies have looked into this. One big study in 2014 found that xylitol might only have a small effect. Even so, mints with xylitol are still better for your teeth than mints with sugar. Sugar can cause tooth decay, but xylitol does not.

Smint is approved by Toothfriendly International. This group checks products to make sure they don't harm your teeth. They also make sure products won't cause tooth decay.
