The Smith-Nelson Hotel is a very old and special building in Reidsville, Georgia. It is also known as the Nelson Hotel. Locals sometimes call it The Painted Lady because of its unique look. You can find this historic hotel at 118 South Main Street.

The Smith-Nelson Hotel

The Smith-Nelson Hotel was built a long time ago, in 1908. It is a two-story building. This means it has two main floors. The hotel is a great example of a style called Folk Victorian architecture.

What Does It Look Like?

The hotel has a special roof shape called a hipped roof. It also has gables in the middle. A gabled roof has a triangular section. A big porch wraps around the outside of the building. This is a great spot to relax.

Inside, the walls are covered with a special type of wood paneling. It is called tongue-and-groove. Each floor has a main hallway. There are two rooms on each side of this hallway. In the 1950s, a small kitchen area was added to the back.

A Special Place in History

The Smith-Nelson Hotel is important because of its history. On March 29, 2001, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This list includes buildings, sites, and objects that are important to American history. Being on this list helps protect the hotel for future generations.
