Smittle, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Smittle is a small, quiet place in the northwestern part of Wright County, Missouri. It's what we call an unincorporated community. This means it's not officially a city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's a collection of homes and land that are part of the larger county.

The area of Smittle is found in the U.S. state of Missouri. You could find it near Missouri Route TT, which is a local road. It was about five miles east of another small place called Grovespring, Missouri. Smittle was also about half a mile west of a stream named Elk Creek. A historic building, the Mt. Olive School, was located just north of where the village used to be.

A Look Back: Smittle's History

Smittle once had its own post office. A post office is a place where people can send and receive mail. This post office opened in 1908. It helped the people living in Smittle stay connected by mail. However, it only stayed open for a few years, closing in 1915.

The community of Smittle got its name from a local family. The Smittle family lived in the area, and the place was named after them. This was a common way for small communities to get their names in the past.
