The Sokollu Mehmed Pasha Mosque (called Sokollu Mehmet Paşa Camii in Turkish) is a beautiful old mosque. It was built in the 1500s during the time of the Ottoman Empire. You can find it in Istanbul, Turkey.
This mosque is in the Azapkapı area of the Beyoğlu district in Istanbul. It is right next to the Atatürk Bridge today. However, this bridge did not exist when the mosque was built.
Who Built This Mosque?
This amazing building was designed by a very famous architect named Mimar Sinan. He lived from about 1488 to 1588. He was the main architect for the Ottoman Empire.
The mosque was built for a powerful leader named Sokollu Mehmed Pasha. He was a "Grand Vizier," which was like a prime minister or chief minister. He held this important job from 1565 to 1579. The mosque was finished in 1578.
