Solimar Beach facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Solimar Beach is a small, pretty beach found in Ventura, a city in Ventura County, California. It's special because it's one of the few beaches in Southern California where you can still bring your dogs along, as long as they are on a leash!

Where is Solimar Beach Located?

Solimar Beach is about one mile north of Emma Wood State Beach. You can find it along the Pacific Coast Highway. It's the first beach community north of the main city of Ventura.

Exploring Solimar Beach

This beach is a lovely stretch of sand and ocean. It runs along the coast where some houses are built. The part of the beach closer to Ventura is known as the "public beach." This means anyone can easily get to the sand there.

Further north, there are two private communities with gates. These areas are mostly for the people who live in the houses there. Sometimes, when the tide is high, it can be hard to walk the whole length of the beach. The water might cover too much of the sand.

Surfing at Solimar Beach

Surfers often call this spot "Soli." It's a good place to surf when waves come from the south. Waves that are about 3 feet tall or more can create fun conditions. The waves change depending on how the sand under the water is shaped.

Famous Faces from Solimar

Did you know that a professional surfer named Mary Osbourne is from Solimar? She even won a TV show called MTV's Surf Girls!
