Somerset is a small community in Orange County, Virginia, in the United States. It is called an unincorporated community because it does not have its own local government like a city or town. Somerset is known for a large roundabout where two main roads, Virginia State Route 20 and Virginia State Route 231, meet.

Two important historic places, Frascati and Tetley, are located in Somerset. These sites are so special that they are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

What is the Climate Like in Somerset?

Somerset has a type of weather called a humid subtropical climate. This means the summers are usually hot and humid. The winters are generally mild, meaning they are not too cold. This climate is often shown as "Cfa" on climate maps.

Somerset Center Store Incident

On May 27, 2020, an unexpected event happened at the Somerset Center Store. A large truck, called a tractor-trailer, crashed into the store building. This happened on the part of Route 231 that goes south, near where the roundabout is now. At that time, it was a regular intersection.

The truck driver did not stop in time and hit the building. Luckily, the two people who were inside the store were able to get out safely. However, the building was completely destroyed in the accident.
