Songs to Grow on for Mother and Child is a special collection of children's music by the famous folk singer Woody Guthrie. He recorded these songs in 1947. The album was first released in 1956 by Folkways Records. Later, in 1991, Smithsonian Folkways released a new, clearer version of the album.

Many songs on this album are like fun lessons. They help kids learn things, like how to count. Other songs are very loving. Woody Guthrie wrote them thinking about his own children. For example, he wrote "Goodnight Little Arlo" for his son, Arlo Guthrie. Arlo was born in 1947, the same year the songs were recorded. Woody Guthrie once said he tried to make these songs for kids aged 4 to 6, but they ended up being enjoyed by everyone!
