Sonny West was best known as a close friend and bodyguard for the famous singer Elvis Presley. He worked with Elvis for sixteen years, along with his cousin Red West. They were part of Elvis's group of friends and helpers at his home, Graceland, in Memphis. This group became known as 'The Memphis Mafia'.
Sonny West also worked as an actor and stunt performer. He appeared in some of Elvis Presley's movies. After Elvis passed away, Sonny West wrote books about his time with the singer. He also attended many events and conventions related to Elvis. At these events, he shared stories about working for Elvis and their friendship.
