Sonya Balmores is an American actress, model, and surfer. She was born on June 23, 1986, in Kalaheo, Hawaii. She is known for her roles in TV shows like Beyond the Break and Inhumans, and the movie Soul Surfer. Sonya also competed in the Miss Teen USA pageant.

Early Life and School
Sonya Balmores grew up in Hawaii. Her father is of Filipino background, and her mother has Irish and Native American roots. Sonya went to Kalaheo Elementary School and later graduated from Kauai High School. She studied visual communications at Hawaii Pacific University.
Modeling and Pageants
Sonya Balmores won the title of Miss Hawaii Teen USA on May 16, 2004. This win allowed her to represent Hawaii in the Miss Teen USA 2004 pageant. The pageant took place in Palm Springs, California, on August 6, 2004. Sonya did very well, finishing as the first runner-up. The winner that year was Shelley Hennig from Louisiana. Sonya's achievement was the best for Hawaii in the pageant since Kelly Hu won in 1985.
After the pageant, Sonya appeared on the covers of several magazines.

Surfing and Action Roles
She played Kai Kealoha in the TV series Beyond the Break, which was about surfing. This show aired on The N channel.
In 2011, Sonya played Malina Birch in the movie Soul Surfer. This film tells the true story of Bethany Hamilton, a surfer who lost her arm in a shark attack.
Sonya also appeared in an episode of Hawaii Five-0 in 2014. She played a character named Alana Duncan in an episode called "Kanalu Hope Loa," which means "The Last Break."
