Her Early Life and Learning
In May 1980, Sophia Shaningwa left Namibia. She received military training as a combatant for the People's Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN). This group worked for Namibia's independence. Later, she went to the Soviet Union to study at the Ivanova Teachers Training College.

Sophia Shaningwa has had a long and active career in Namibian politics. In 2004, she became the governor of the Khomas Region. A governor is like a leader for a specific area. Later, she served as the governor for the Omusati Region.
