She went to Howard University for her college degree. After that, she studied medicine at Meharry Medical College. She also earned a master's degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. These schools helped her become the skilled doctor she was.

Helping Babies and Leading Hospitals

Dr. Womack dedicated her career to helping sick and premature babies. She worked at several important hospitals. She was a leader at Harper University Hospital and Hutzel Women's Hospital. She also led the neonatology department at Sinai-Grace Hospital. This meant she was in charge of the doctors and nurses who cared for newborn babies.

From 2004 to 2006, Dr. Womack held a very important position. She was the president of the medical staff at Detroit Medical Center. This was a huge achievement because she was the first woman and the first African-American person to ever hold that job. She opened doors for many others.

Dr. Womack was married to the Rev. Jimmy Womack. They had two daughters named Brandi and Ashley.
