South Florida Railway Museum facts for kids
The South Florida Railway Museum is a fun place to learn about trains! It's located in the old Deerfield Beach Seaboard Air Line Railway Station in Deerfield Beach, Florida. People who love trains volunteer their time to help run the museum.
Where to Find the Museum
The museum is inside the historic Deerfield Beach Seaboard Air Line Railroad Station. This station was built a long time ago, in 1926. It's a very important building because it's listed as a historic place. This means it's special and protected! The station was fixed up in the early 1990s. Today, you can still catch trains like Amtrak and Tri-Rail from this station. The museum itself is in the part of the station where they used to handle smaller cargo shipments.
What You Can See Inside
The museum has awesome things to explore!
- Model Train Layouts: You can see two working model train layouts. One shows the "South Farmington Rail & Mule Railroad" in a size called HO scale. The other is a "South Florida N Scale" layout. These models show different places and how trains looked.
- Model Locomotives: There's a big collection of model train engines. They show off the different colors and designs of trains from many years ago.
- Train History: You can also see old clothes, tools, books, and other items from 1901 until today.
- Bells and Whistles: Real train bells and whistles are on display.
- Observation Car: There's even a full-size model of the back of a Pullman observation car. This is the special car at the end of a train where people could sit and watch the scenery go by.
