South Gate, Indiana facts for kids
South Gate is a small place in Indiana, USA. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's not an official city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Whitewater Township in Franklin County.
The Story of South Gate
South Gate was first planned out in 1850. A person named Richard Wood was the one who mapped out the area. He divided the land into lots, which is called "platting." This was done so people could build homes and businesses there.
For many years, South Gate had its own post office. This was a place where people could send and receive mail. However, the post office in South Gate closed down in 1941.
