This neighborhood has clear borders that help you know where it is. To the south, it touches the town of Steelton, Pennsylvania. The Capital Area Greenbelt, a popular trail system, forms its eastern edge.
Looking north, Interstate 83 marks the boundary. To the west, you'll find the beautiful Susquehanna River. So, South Harrisburg is nestled between a river, a highway, and a green trail.
What's in South Harrisburg?
South Harrisburg has a mix of different zones. You'll find industrial areas, which are places where factories or businesses operate. These are mostly on the outer parts of the neighborhood.
Closer to the center and east, there are many housing developments where people live. The northern part has commercial areas with lots of shops and businesses, especially ones you might drive to.
Important Buildings and Places

New Plans for the Future
In 2023, the city started working on big plans for some housing areas in South Harrisburg. These include Hall Manor and Hoverter Homes. The goal is to improve these neighborhoods, which have a mix of different types of homes.
That same year, the Harrisburg City Council approved a project to build new affordable apartment homes. This project will bring new places to live for families in the neighborhood.
