The buildings were designed by two architecture companies: UNStudio and Cox Architecture. Right now, a BMW car dealership is on the land where the buildings will be. If these buildings are finished, the main tower will be the tallest building in the Southern Hemisphere!

Building the Future: Southbank by Beulah
This section tells you about how the idea for this amazing building came to life.
Choosing the Best Design
Beulah International wanted to find the best design for their new project. So, they held a special competition called "Southbank by Beulah." Six different groups of architects entered the contest. Each group had two architecture companies working together.
In the end, the team of UNStudio and Cox Architecture won the competition. Their winning design was announced in August 2018.
What Will the Buildings Be Like?
The Southbank by Beulah project is a very big plan for Melbourne. It is expected to cost about AUD$2 billion. Building work was planned to start in 2020.
The project is sometimes called "Green Spine." It will have two skyscrapers.
- Tower 1 will be super tall, with 102 floors. It will reach a height of 354 meters. This will make it taller than Australia's current tallest building, Q1, which is 322 meters high.
- Tower 2 will have 59 floors and be 251 meters tall.
Both towers will have hotel rooms, apartments where people can live, and offices. The buildings will look like they gently twist as they go up. They will also have plants and trees growing on balconies all around the outside. This will make them look very green and natural.
Getting the Green Light
Before building can start, big projects need official approval. In March 2020, the City of Melbourne gave its approval for the plan. Then, on April 23, 2020, the Planning Minister, Richard Wynne, also approved the project.
The government wanted to help new projects start quickly. This was especially important because of the COVID–19 pandemic. So, Southbank by Beulah was one of the projects that got "fast-tracked" to help the economy.
