Spalding, Missouri facts for kids
Spalding is a small, quiet place in Ralls County, Missouri, in the United States. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and maybe a few buildings, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, the county government helps manage things for the people living there.
How Spalding Got Its Name
Spalding has a bit of history, even though it's a small place. A long time ago, in 1882, a post office was opened there. A post office is a building where people can send and receive letters and packages. This one stayed open for many years, until 1910.
The community got its name from a special spring nearby, which was called Spalding Springs. A spring is a place where water naturally flows out of the ground. The spring itself was named after a man named Robert M. Spalding. He was a "pioneer settler," which means he was one of the very first people to move to and live in that area. So, the community, the spring, and the post office all shared the name of this early settler.
