Spectamen plicatulum is a type of sea snail. It's a small mollusk that lives in the ocean. These snails belong to a group called gastropods and are part of the family Solariellidae.
What Does This Sea Snail Look Like?
This sea snail has a shell that is about 4 millimeters (mm) tall. Its shell is about 6 mm wide. That's pretty tiny, smaller than a pea!
This snail's shell is a bit different from others in its group. The top part of its shell, called the body whorl, has very faint folds or wrinkles. These folds are almost gone. Also, the two ridges around the center of the shell, near where it coils, are quite smooth.
Where Does This Sea Snail Live?
Spectamen plicatulum lives only in the ocean waters around New Zealand. When a species lives only in one specific place, we say it is endemic to that area.
