Spotswood, New Plymouth

Spotswood is a suburb of New Plymouth in the Taranaki Region of New Zealand. It is located to the west of the city centre.

Spotswood's History

The land where Spotswood is today was bought by the New Zealand Government in 1901. It was then divided into smaller pieces in 1902. These pieces of land were sold to people starting in May 1903.

Who Lives in Spotswood?

Spotswood covers about 3.46 square kilometers (about 1.3 square miles). As of 2023, around 3,990 people live here. This means there are many people living in each square kilometer.

In 2018, a count of the population showed 3,633 people lived in Spotswood. This was a small increase from earlier years. There were slightly more females than males. The average age was about 38 years old.

About one-fifth of the people were under 15 years old. Many people were between 30 and 64 years old. About 17% of the people were 65 or older.

Spotswood is a diverse place. Most people are of European (Pākehā) background. A good number of people are Māori. There are also people from Pacific Islands and Asia living in Spotswood. About 15% of the people living here were born outside of New Zealand.
