Spring Hill was a small community in Gregg County, Texas, in the United States. It was an unincorporated community, which means it didn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it was part of the larger county.
Spring Hill was founded before the year 1900. It became a busy place during the 1930s because of the big oil boom. Many oil workers came to live in temporary camps there.
Spring Hill's History
Spring Hill started as a small settlement before 1900. It was a quiet place for many years.
The Oil Boom Years
In the 1930s, a huge amount of oil was discovered nearby. This led to the "oil boom." Many people moved to Spring Hill to work in the oil fields. They lived in special camps set up for workers.
However, most of these oil workers left Spring Hill by the end of the 1930s. The community's population changed a lot during this time.
Growing and Changing
By 1940, Spring Hill had about 140 people living there. It also had its own school district, which brought different schools together. There were also several businesses in the area.
Spring Hill continued to grow over the years. By 1984, its population had reached 1,458 people. This growth was partly because of the nearby city of Longview developing and expanding.
Joining Longview
On October 7, 1983, Spring Hill officially became part of Longview. This process is called annexation. Even though it's now part of Longview, Spring Hill still has its own school system. It is called the Spring Hill Independent School District.
