Springhead is a place in Kent, England. It is found where the River Ebbsfleet begins. Springhead is located southwest of the town of Gravesend. This area is an important part of the Ebbsfleet Valley development. New homes and other buildings are being built there. Springhead is also where the High Speed 1 train line crosses the A2 road.

The History of Springhead

Ancient Times: Vagniacae

Long ago, Springhead was known as Vagniacae by the Romans. This area had a pool of water fed by eight natural springs. A famous Roman road called Watling Street also passed through Springhead. The Romans built many temples here. They also had buildings used for trading goods.

Watercress Farming Begins

In 1808, a man named William Bradbery started something new in Springhead. He was the first person to grow watercress to sell it. Watercress is a leafy green plant often used in salads. This made Springhead famous for its early commercial farming.
