Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Springhill is what we call a ghost town in Decatur County, Indiana, in the United States. A ghost town is a place where most or all people have moved away, leaving behind empty buildings and a quiet history.

What Happened to Springhill?

Springhill was once a small community. It even had its own post office! A post office is where people send and receive letters and packages. It's often a very important place in a town.

The Spring Hill post office first opened way back in 1827. That's almost 200 years ago! It stayed open for a long time, helping people in the area connect with others.

However, things changed over the years. The post office eventually closed down in 1901. When a post office closes, it can be a sign that fewer people are living in a town. Over time, as people moved away for different reasons, Springhill became a ghost town.
