Sherman is a small town located in Iron County, Wisconsin, in the United States. In the year 2000, about 336 people lived there.

Some smaller areas, like Powell and Springstead, are also part of the town. A portion of the land belonging to the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, a Native American tribe, is also found within Sherman.

History of Sherman

The town of Sherman was first created on April 19, 1907. It was originally called the Town of Emerson. Later, in 1918, its name was changed to honor D. William Sherman. He was the second person to lead the town's government.

Geography of Sherman

Sherman is a large area, covering about 136.6 square miles (353.7 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, about 117.9 square miles (305.5 square kilometers). The rest, about 18.6 square miles (48.3 square kilometers), is water. This means that lakes, rivers, or other bodies of water make up about 13.64% of the town's total area.

People of Sherman

In 2000, there were 336 people living in Sherman. This means there were about 2.8 people for every square mile. Most of the people living in Sherman were White (99.11%). A small number were Native American (0.60%), and a few were from two or more racial backgrounds (0.30%).
