The St. Catherine Cathedral (also known as Spanish: Catedral de Santa Catalina) is a very important Catholic church in the city of Cajamarca, Peru. It is the main church for the Catholic community there. This beautiful building was constructed in the Baroque style. It is owned by the Catholic Diocese of Cajamarca. In 1972, it was officially named a Cultural Heritage of the Nation in Peru. This means it is a special historical building that is protected.

History of the Cathedral

The building we see today started being built in the 1600s. In the 1700s, the bells for the cathedral were made. Since 1908, this church has been known as a "cathedral." This means it is the main church for a bishop.
