This church is called a "cathedral" because it's the main church for the Romanian Catholic Eparchy of St. George's in Canton. An eparchy is like a diocese, which is an area managed by a bishop.
History of St. George Cathedral
Around the early 1900s, many Romanian families came to live in the Canton, Ohio area. These Romanian Catholics wanted a place to worship. So, they created the St. George parish in 1912. The church building you see today was finished and dedicated in 1975.
Later, in 1982, a special group called the Apostolic Exarchate of the United States of America was formed for Romanian Catholics. When this happened, St. George Church became a cathedral. This means it became the most important church for Romanian Catholics in that region.
