St Anne's Church, Ynyshir is a historic building located in the Welsh village of Ynyshir. It sits in the beautiful Rhondda Valley. This church was built a long time ago, in the 1880s. It is part of the Church in Wales.

The Story of St Anne's Church

Building the Church

St Anne's Church was designed by an architect named E. M. Bruce Vaughan. The building was finished in 1886. However, some parts, like one of the windows on the west side, were added later, around 1905. The church also has a special organ, which was built in 1907 by a company called Harrison & Harrison.

Inside the Church

Inside St Anne's, there is a small hall. This hall holds a special memorial. The church building has also been used as a polling station, which is a place where people go to vote in elections. St Anne's Church does not have a clerestory. A clerestory is an upper part of a wall that has windows to let in light. The inside of the church features several statues of famous preachers.

Remembering History

In 2014, St Anne's Church held special services. These services were to remember the 100-year anniversary, or centenary, of the start of the First World War. Part of this important service took place at the Ynyshir Cenotaph. A cenotaph is a monument built to honor people who died in a war, especially those whose bodies are not there. This cenotaph is located not far from the church.

The Church Today

St Anne's Church closed its doors in March of 2017. This happened when the priest, Father Paul Bigmore, retired.
