St Bede's Church is a Roman Catholic parish church in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England. It is a special building where people go to worship. The church was designed in a style called Gothic Revival. This means it looks like older churches from the Middle Ages.
The church was designed by famous architects, Weightman and Hadfield. It is located on the corner of Station Road and St Bede's Road in Masbrough, close to the town centre. Building work took place from 1841 to 1842. The church opened eight years before a big change for the Catholic Church in England in 1850.

The Story of St Bede's Church
How the Church Started
St Bede's Church was built on land given by a kind man named Benjamin Badger. He donated the land to the local Catholic community. Even though he was a member of the Church of England, he wanted to help.
In 1842, a journal reported what he said. He knew the local Catholics needed a place to worship. They could not afford to buy land. So, he offered 1,000 square yards of land. This land was worth about £300 to £400 at the time. He gave it on one condition. The church built there had to be a respectable building. This was so it would not make the nearby land look less valuable.
Building the Church
The first stone of the church was laid on 29 July 1841. Benjamin Badger himself laid this important stone. The architects were Matthew Ellison Hadfield and John Grey Weightman. They were well-known for their church designs.
These architects also designed other churches. They created St Bede's Church in Widnes. Another church they designed was the Church of St Mary of the Assumption in Burnley.
St Bede's Church in Rotherham officially opened on 5 October 1842. It was dedicated by John Briggs. He was an important church leader from the Yorkshire District. Later, in the 1930s, a choir loft was added inside the church. This is a special area where the choir sings during services.
The Parish of St Bede's
A parish is like a local church community. St Bede's Church is part of a larger parish. This parish also includes Forty Martyrs Church. Forty Martyrs Church is located in Kimberworth, which is also in Rotherham.
