St David's Church, Connah's Quay, is a church located in the town of Connah's Quay, Flintshire, Wales. It is an active Anglican church. It belongs to the Deanery of Hawarden, the Archdeaconry of Wrexham, and the Diocese of St Asaph. This church is also known as the "daughter church" of St Mark's Church, Connah's Quay.
History of St David's Church
The church building was completed in 1914. Its foundation stone was placed on March 21, 1914. The very first church service was held there in January 1915.
The building was first meant to be a church hall. The main church was planned to be built in front of it. However, the church parish ran out of money. So, the hall was changed into the church.
The hall was built using Ellesmere Sandstone. Its inside walls were lined with Ruabon brick. A smaller hall, now called the institute, was built next to it. The field in front of the church is still used for church events and fun fairs.
Inside the Church
The church was updated in 2004. This was done for its ninetieth anniversary. It also helped the church meet modern health and safety rules.
A new altar was put in the main part of the church, called the nave. The steps inside were also made smaller. Now, Holy Communion is taken at the nave altar on Sunday mornings. On Wednesday mornings, it is taken at the High Altar. In 2007, the church got new seating. It now has over 100 comfortable chairs for people attending services.
Church Services
St David's Church holds regular services each week. Every Sunday morning at 9:30 AM, there is a Family Eucharist and Sunday School. A Holy Eucharist service is held on Wednesdays at 10:00 AM. The current Vicar for Connah's Quay, the Reverend Alexier Mayes, began her role in April 2018.
